Chief Medical Examiner, State of Rhode Island Department of Health.
Duties include the administration and execution of the State’s program for medical-legal investigations; review and revision of investigative reports; performance of postmortem investigations and/or autopsies; preparation and issuance of death certificates and investigative reports; presentation of expert testimony in various venues (including courts of competent jurisdiction); oversight of the preparation of duty schedules for staff; responsibility for the overall staffing and budget of the Office of the State Medical Examiners; service as a member of the Executive Committee for the Department of Health under the leadership of the Director of Health; coordination of the Medical Examiner’s Commission as Executive Secretary; maintenance of agency accreditation by the National Association of Medical Examiners; and related work as required. Requirements include graduation from a medical school of recognized standing with formal postgraduate training in Pathologic Anatomy and Forensic Pathology; a minimum of 5 yrs. experience in a responsible position involving practice in the field of Forensic Pathology and/or legal medicine including a minimum of 3 yrs. management experience; or substantial equivalent. Must possess licensure to practice medicine in the State of RI and certification by the American Board of Pathology in the field of Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Pathology at the time of appointment, and must maintain such licensure and certification as a condition of employment. Salary $230,000 per year, pending approval at public hearing (unclassified position).
