FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST – SAN JUAN, PR The Institute of Forensic Sciences of Puerto Rico (PRIFS) has an immediate opening for one Forensic Pathologist. The PRIFS is the Commonwealth’s forensic facility, employs 285 individuals, and serves four million US citizens and stakeholders of the criminal justice system. The Medicolegal / Toxicology Division is fully accredited, counts with 8 forensic pathologists, 2 medical pathologists, and performs ca. 3,200 autopsies and external examinations per annum. The division receives forensic support from collocated full-service Criminalistics consisting of seven forensic disciplines, and 24/7 Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) in an environment conducive to team work, learning and excellence. A modern histology laboratory, whole body/dental X-ray suit as well as in-house forensic anthropology, neuropathology, and forensic dentistry services are also provided. The PRIFS counts with a modern high capacity mortuary unit with ergonomic cadaver storage and handling equipment and has a total cadaver storage capacity of 216. The PRIFS has an ACGME Accredited Forensic Pathology Fellowship Program and is fully accredited by NAME and ASCLD. The applicant must have graduated from a certified Medical school, completed an accredited training program in Anatomic or Anatomic/Clinical pathology, as well as a training program in Forensic Pathology. Duties and responsibilities include: external and internal examinations to determine cause and manner of death; autopsy report preparation; and interpretation/discussion of case findings with colleagues, criminal-justice-system representatives, and decedent’s families. The candidate must obtain a current medical license in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in conformance to applicable law and be board eligible or board certified in Forensic Pathology at the time the application is submitted. Excellent oral and verbal skills in all areas of communications in both english and spanish are highly desirable. Competitive salaries offered.
